CASE STUDY

Diverse Leaders Network partnered with Landsec to deliver a bespoke 12-week mentoring programme. The Landsec Mentoring Programme was thoughtfully and intentionally designed to inspire, develop and equip young people with the leadership and employability skills needed to flourish beyond their academic achievements. The aim of the programme was to broaden young people’s knowledge of the real estate, develop confidence, increase leadership growth mindset and engage them in critical discussions through one to one mentoring delivered by dedicated Landsec staff who volunteered their time to inspire the next generation.
In partnership with St Saviour’s and St Olave’s, a school local to one of Landsec’s offices, we selected 16 female sixth form students and matched them with 16 staff members who we trained by DLN to become mentors on the programme. We adapted this programme to comply with the COVID restrictions in place at the time by delivering the programme virtually. The first session was a group call where everyone met each other and the last session was also a group call that enabled the mentors and mentees to celebrate the end of the programme and listen to testimonials and speeches from a number of mentor and mentees. In between that, mentors met with their mentees for 60 minutes every week during the school day.
We developed a guided approach to the programme by providing mentors with topics and resources to support their discussions. Welcomed by all, this approach enabled the newest to the most experienced mentor to get the most out of this experience. After each session, both the mentors and mentees completed a weekly feedback form enabling us to track progress and engagement.
Based on the success of the first programme, we are delighted to say that we are currently running the programme again with a new group of 16 mentors from Landsec and a new group of sixth form students from the same school.
